FAIR: New donor eligibility questions

The way we assess the risk of infectious disease in our donors has changed, so the questions we ask about your recent sexual activity have changed too.

If you answer yes to any, please get in touch with our clinical support team (nss.snbtsenquiry@nhs.scot)

  • In the last three months, have you (or anyone you have had sex with) been diagnosed with or treated for a sexually transmitted disease (except chlamydia, genital herpes, or genital warts)
  • In the last three months, have you taken pre or post-exposure prophylaxis (often known as PEP or PrEP) to prevent HIV infection?
  • In the last three months have you had chemsex? Chemsex is a specific type of sexual activity where people take certain stimulant drugs to let them have sex for longer and with more people. Chemsex drugs include methamphetamine, mephedrone and GHB).
  • In the last three months, have you had a new sexual partner or more than one sexual partner? If yes, did you have anal sex?

Answering Yes to any of these questions may mean you will not be able to donate for 3 months
